We wanted to bring something new to the local food scene without letting go of our beloved Nepali fare that you all have come to enjoy. Now, we are “IRRAWADDY” pronounced [ ir-uh-wod-ee, –waw-dee ] To those of you who do not know, it is the most important river in Myanmar, formerly Burma, that provides food and livelihood to millions of people. Irrawaddy is powered by the same team that served you Nepali and Indian food in the past. What’s new is that, now, we have a full Burmese menu! Delicious Burmese and Nepali food! My favorite app is Gin Thoke. Pumpkin coconut curry is excellent! Poh is a gracious hostess. My family's favorite Essex Junction restaurant.

Easily one of the best, reasonably price dinner spots in Chittenden County. The Nepalese and Burmese menus are loaded with great stuff, but my recommendation would be to order what you've never heard of. I've eaten almost everything on the menu at this point. Here are the highlights:Lapet Thoke - it's a small salad made from fermented tea leaves, roasted garlic, some peas, cabbage, and a handful of other flavors and spices that I can't place. It is incredibly flavorful and for me one of the most interesting things you can eat in Vermont.Aloo Tikki - a Nepalese fried mash potato... or something? I don't know how to describe it, but the texture is that of mashed potatoes, but the exterior is slightly crispy like a french fry (or hashbrowns). It's served with a nice sauce to dunk it in as well. Stupidly good.Bhuteko Bhat - if you've ever had legit fried rice you know it's on another level from what you get at 99% of takeout joints. This is the good kind of fried rice.Sahi Korma - a more standard curry that they make flawlessly. Not overly sweet, nice herbaceous flavor, very rich and comforting.

Really badly flavored food! Chicken tikka masala was not only yellow in color but also tasting like obnoxious with no salt and spices! Butter chicken is hard to recognize or even manage to eat it! Despite us telling them to make the chowmein spicy, the chef couldn’t make it the way it is in Nepal or India! Prawn curry has green peas in it which is never a part of the recipe and was also uncooked!Even the service was very slow and unprofessional! The waitress was hardly polite. Horrible experience!

Great meal, great service. Highly recommend the chicken samosas, veggie pakoras and the pumpkin curry. Will definitely be putting this in our regular rotation.

The Pumpkin Curry and Chicken MoMos were fantastic! Very tasty dishes, relaxing atmosphere, and affordably priced. Lovely place.

We had a nice meal here. Pleasant, attentive service, and the dishes we had were all fresh and tasty. It is a tasteful no frills renovation of an older commercial space. Will most definitely return.

Had the chicken thupka. As others have mentioned slow service. The soup had good color, aroma and presentation. Disappointingly that was as far as it went. Bland chicken broth base that tasted like a generic store bought canned soup. Wanted it to be better.

Fantastic! First time trying Nepali food and it did not disappoint! Brought in our own bottle of wine. Great atmosphere. Can’t wait to go back!

First restaurant I ate at when I moved to Essex. The lady who helped me at the counter was extremely kind and the vibe of the restaurant seemed nice. I was incredibly disappointed when I got home to eat my take-out (curry and rice) and I paid around 20 bucks for basically about one cup of watery, mildly flavored sauce with ONE cube of paneer in it and a little bit of rice. I was absolutely floored that they would give me so little food for that price. No one is ordering a meal to eat one cube of paneer. Really disappointed as I'd love to get them business, but I don't have the money to make this mistake again.
